Yes. From 2025, as a UK citizen you will be asked to apply for ETIAS application.
By Launching ETIAS System, the European Union intends to enhance the safety and security of the EU’s external borders and reduce the risks of illegal migration.
No. ETIAS will be obligatory for every visa-exempt “Third Country National”, including the UK Citizens.
In this case, “Third Country Nationals” are the citizens of the countries that are not part of the EU, EFTA or European Microstates with Open Borders. As for today, the list of ETIAS-eligible countries covers almost 20% of the world’s population and 59 countries.
Since January 31, 2020, the UK is no longer the member of the European Union. Although UK Citizens still can enjoy visa-free travel with the Union and its member states, once the ETIAS system is launched, you will need to apply for a visa waiver online.
According to Frontex, ETIAS will be launched in 2025 for almost 59 non-EU countries, including the UK. It is expected that there will be a six-month transition period before the system takes the full force.
All ETIAS applicants, between the ages of 18 and 70, including UK citizens, will have to pay a fee of €7. Travelers under 18 and over 70 are exempt from paying the fee.
